Phlebotomy Refresher Course Program Description
The Gifted Hands Academy Phlebotomy Refresher Course is an advanced, competency driven program designed explicitly for currently practicing healthcare professionals phlebotomists, nurses, and medical assistants who seek to update and reinforce their phlebotomy expertise. Delivered in a focused, small-group format, this 2-day, 16-hour intensive course integrates both theoretical and practical dimensions of contemporary phlebotomy practice.
Participants will engage in 8 hours of rigorous classroom-based instruction, addressing the latest evidence-based practices in phlebotomy fundamentals. Core topics include advanced phlebotomy and venipuncture techniques, anatomical and physiological considerations of the upper extremity and cardiovascular system, and best practices in capillary blood collection. The curriculum emphasizes error prevention and patient safety, contextualized within current regulatory and clinical frameworks.
The remaining 8 hours are reserved for immersive, hands-on clinical training. Using state-of-the-art simulation models and supervised laboratory environments, students will refine their technique in the order of draw, specimen handling, and laboratory protocols. The practicum is oriented towards minimizing pre-analytical errors and ensuring procedural proficiency that meets current industry standards.
Upon completion, students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Certification Exam, thereby reaffirming their credentials and enhancing their professional mobility within the healthcare sector.
Program Prerequisites
Applicants must demonstrate the following prior to enrollment:
1. Minimum age of 18 years.
2. Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
3. Completion of registration, including payment of the registration fee, deposit, and arrangement of payment plan if applicable.
4. Up-to-date immunization status, specifically a current Tetanus vaccination.
5. English language proficiency (verbal and written).
6. Valid government-issued identification (driver’s license or state ID).
7. Submission of a signed admissions statement and enrollment agreement.
8. Current employment as a phlebotomist, nurse, or medical assistant.
